    Burns Nice and Good Smell

    I really like the smell of these and they light very easily while still lasting a good while. Not really sure how to describe the scent, but it’s definitely a bit heavier without feeling too strong. Good if you want to fill a room with a good smell quickly.

    Happy, happy!

    I was very hesitant to order the Black Magic incense sticks. Believe it or not, the name sorta freaked me out. I was afraid of some bad juju all up in my house! LOL!Finally, I just ordered them. I’m so glad I did. These little incense sticks smell SO good.When I burn them, I defiantly smell a top note of Patchouli. When it dispersed through out the room, I smell a Musk scent that smells so good.If you’re a fan of Patchouli and musk, and if you like the more Earthy scents, you’ll love the Black Magic.However, it is a stronger burn, so if you’re sensitive to strong scents, you may want to rethink this scent.I defiantly would recommend this awesome Hippie scent. Takes you flying back into the 60’s and 70’s era. Smells terrific, and NO bad juju! Great price for the big amount of sticks you receive.

    Decent, good value for the price

    When first lighting these there is a bit of black smoke, they do smell good just not quite the smell in the description. It’s a scent that is hard to pinpoint. They burn for quite a while at least 15-20 minutes.

    Very nice!

    I bought this based off the reviews. It wasn’t overpowering like some scents, which is a huge bonus for me. It’s a nice sweet and earthy scent that I really enjoy.

    confused

    I have ordered Hem incense many times in the past and have been very satisfied with the quality of their products. This last order however left me a little confused. What arrived looked suspiciously like a pair of athletic wrist wraps. Turns out they were athletic wrist wraps. I had real issues trying to keep them lit. Oh well. Live and learn.

    Not overpowering and no floral scent

    The scent is definitely different when you burn it. It smells like an occult store, but also has a slight men’s cologne scent. Definitely a musky semi sweet/spicy smell but I dont get any hints of floral, which I personally prefer. It does burn fairly fast but doesn’t leave the room in a haze of smoke. The cost is lower than where I use to buy my HEM incense, so I don’t mind burning a few a day.

    This scent is for garden/nature lovers. Who injoy sweet airy smells that won’t over power. Is as fresh rain on a bearded iris, a sweet dirt smell ( no worms smell) I use these with fairy dreams to calmly cleans the house without over powering after smells… Resin incense should not be burnt indoor as dragons blood

    Very strong scent

    Great value for as many sticks as you get, if you like the scent. Very strong right out of the box – maybe lavender (?) in with the musk. Smells similar to Black Canyon cologne/candle. Would probably work great for keeping mosquitos away when sitting outside on a nice evening.I’m not a fan of these charcoal sticks. When burning, the wooden stick leaves “strings” and not a complete burn. Much smokier than my traditional Tibetan incense sticks that burn completely

    Nice scent

    Do you have a nice scent and can be used for spiritual work as well as adding fragrance to the air you get a lot for your money so they last a long time and each stick last at least 30 minutes or so

    The reviews are true

    The other reviewers saying this smells like an occult shop are true. Ha! I bought this on a whim, burned it, and it immediately took me back to the New Age/occult shops I used to visit in my younger years. It’s pungent and smells great, a little more masculine. I burn two at a time, and the aroma lingers for several hours afterward. It’s great and doesn’t have that irritating “burnt” smelled like some incense gives off. So glad I found this!

    The scent is absolutley heavenly.

    I was so happy that the scent wasn’t overwhelming like so many incense sticks are. The scent is like a whif of lightly flowered clean soap. I am thinking of taping some to my HVAC vents. I will definitley buy again.Since I havn’t used it yet I did’nt score the longevity. Whatever, it’s worth it!

    Inconsistent scent and burns really fast

    I’ve had other HEM incense and have loved them, but for me personally, these ones missed the mark. Each stick varied in the potency of the scent and some just smelled like burning wood and produced too much smoke (like they just werent soaked long enough). They also burn way too quickly and actually found some of them burning passed the point they were supposed to have stopped. Thankfully i caught them in time before they could have done any damage. But had I not, that’s worrying…. please fix this.

    Why are they paper thin?

    I have purchased a lot of HEM inscents and the are normally pretty thick and burn slow. This batch is paper thin and I have to burn two to get the normal effects from one…the inconsistency is bothersome. Making lose faith in the quality product you normally produce…do not buy!!

    Long burn

    I love the variety. The price is great for the amount of sticks. I burn everywhere I can. The scent is a little strong and at times it can be overpowering. It’s definitely an acquired taste. However, I will still recommend. I say the average burn time is about thirty minutes. I light one when I walk my dog on our long stroll. When it’s close to burning out I tell her time to wrap it up.

    Smells like others

    Great scent, fantastic price!

    My favorite scent! Such a deal too at just under $7. I was paying $3 for just one small pack at my local shop who seemily decided to stop stocking this scent. This large box will last me at least a few months. So glad I found them on here, win-win!

    Nice

    One of my favorite scents and also a nice alternative to Always using dragon’s blood for spellwork. Only complaint is I hate cle some of the sticks are thick and some thin. I wish they used more consistent wood/ sticks

    Nothing special

    These are regular charcoal incense with a somewhat pleasant scent. They smell a lot like baby powder with other floral notes added. Everyone says they smell like a magic shop but to me magic shops usually smell like sandalwood or nag champa not this.

    Good value for the money

    I liked it that it was different from traditional scents, as others have pointed out. But I don’t think I’d buy it again, but only because that’s a personal preference. Otherwise, it’s a great product, and understand why others would like it. Just not my cup of tea.

    Great scent and value!

    These smell amazing! (Kinda tough to describe, but I love it!) Also they are thick (so they burn longer than you’d think they would, because of the length). And it’s a strong scent – I can usually smell it from a room away.

    Kind of like satya “black crystal” but not…

    But spicier- more specifically, cinnamon. It’s a little powdery, which kind of has grandma vibes, but that’s fine.I don’t typically like HEM but was curious about this one. Usually they have a weird charcoal smell (I forget the actual ingredient name) but these just smell like their scent.Curiously the packaging warns that one should not inhale the smoke and the incense should be placed near an open window. I hope the ingredients are safe….. Something tells me they are, I think I’ve read that they use safe ingredients.These burn fast but for the price, who cares?Now! No way are these my favorite but they’re perfectly fine. Again, for the price… We are lucky to have these.(try satya black crystal they’re awesome)

    These smell awesome great VALUE!!!!!

    Love these incence. They smell great and yes the head shops of the 80 s smelled just like these i always wondered what scent they all used and yup these r it. Great value for the money too!!! Am purchasing again as should u u will not b disappointed and they arivwd sooner than I xpected. And I just ordered my fourth box of these great incense. THIS TIME THEY SMELLED EVEN BETTER. ITS DEFINITELY DIGFEREN FROM ALL THE OTHER TIMES BUT IS EVEN BETTER I WILL ALWAYS ORDER THESE. BLACK MAGIC LINGERS AND NOT ALL HEM INCENSE LINGER LIKE THESE DO!!!! LOVE LOVE!!!! IT has a musky scent and I like musky instead of sweet so THESE CHECK ALL THE BOXES GTEAT VALUE, ON TIME DELIVERY AND A GREAT SCENT!!!!!

    Just like Saturday market smell-Portland Or =)

    I have been buying the horrible ones from the store and thought I am just going to have to trust other reviewers. I don’t like doing that all the time because I have trusted people and when I get the product, I am not happy. I promise I don’t like to do reviews until I have used the product for at least a month. Let me tell you, I have ordered these 4 times now. Yes you get a lot of them, but you get way more for your money than you do in the stores! We love to light a couple through out the day. Anyone that comes to the house, give us complements. It doesn’t burn as fast as the ones in the store either. The sticks are full too. The ones in the store can have sticks that are some what full. I will keep buying these.

    Dark, musky, & floral

    While this particular scent isn’t my favorite scent by HEM it’s still pretty nice, smelling of dark muskiness, patchouli, and florals I can’t quite put my finger on. It smells nice perfect for darker workings if you’re into that sort of thing. I feel like this scent plus maybe benzoin, copal, or myrrh is exactly what an underworld castle, library, or archive of some sort would smell like 😉

    Love this scent

    This is very fragrent and smells great. I’ve always been a long time fan of Nag Champa and Super Hit, but now this is now up there! It fills the room but is not harsh. I also love the Hem Dragon’s Blood but it can be a little ‘harsh’ if that makes sense.I’ve ordered this several times and will continue to do so. Love it!

    It’s otherwise not an easy scent to describe

    If you’re an older witch or occultist, this scent will take you back to the occult shops you visited in the 90s and early 00s. It is exactly that smell, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what they were burning in those shops back then. It’s otherwise not an easy scent to describe. It’s quite “witchy”, with musky/earthy undertones and a certain sweetness to it. There may be a bit of dragon’s blood in it as well, but just a hint.This is a strong and overpowering scent and I don’t recommend burning more than one stick at a time especially if you live in a small house or apartment. Be sure to burn it in a larger space like a living room, or to have doors and windows open if you’re burning it in a small space. It’s a wonderful scent, but it is very strong and may give you a headache or hurt your throat if you burn it in a smaller space.

    So bad even the demons run away

    I bought three different HEM incense scents because my usual brand wasn’t available and HEM gets great reviews.I received Jasmine first and wasn’t impressed at all; I received this incense along with another scent today and could not have been more disappointed. Both Black Magic and Egyptian Musk smell pretty much the same, and both have the same soapy, chemical odor as the HEM Jasmine. Anyone who thinks this is what Occult shops and used bookstores smell like has never been to either.I only burned half a stick of Black Magic – which took a little more than 5 minutes – before snuffing it out because it smelled like a drunk old man wearing dollar store cologne. I have never had a physical reaction to incense, but this had my nose burning and my eyes stinging in minutes from an adjacent room.I should have known they were trash when I lit it and black smoke billowed from the flame. I’d hoped the scent would get better, but it just kept getting worse! To add insult to injury, half the sticks in the box I opened weren’t even completely covered and even the ones that were weren’t covered evenly – if I’d actually enjoyed this stench, I’d have been a bit miffed about that.I can’t figure out why there are so many 5 star reviews. Do this many people really buy bad incense to cover up even worse smells?Speaking of smells – the HEM Jasmine lost all but the chemical stench after just a few days despite being in the original closed box sealed inside of a Ziploc bag. I have Satya Nag Champa that’s been sitting in the original packaging, open, in a ripped box on a shelf for a year and a half and it still smells as strong and as good as the day I bought it!

    These smell like my Mémère’s apartment from my childhood! Hello, nostalgia

    My Mémère has been gone for 20 years now so it was a real surprise to be transported back to her place with this incense. Maybe that’s not a winning factor for other’s reading this review, but it’s not like her place smelled bad or like our stereotypical idea of “old people smell.” She was a French lady particular about her things, perfumes, etc. tldr; it smells good and you get a good amount of sticks for the price you pay.

    Day 33: Nothing Magicky Has Happened Yet

    One of my favorite HEM scents. I’m no olfactory expert, but it’s a welcoming and cozy type of smell. I like to light it while icing my back at the end of the day. It’s good for relaxing and trying to dissociate from pain. Fairy dreams is another great HEM scent to try as well. I only mention that in this review because the two scents are very similar.My only disappointment — and it is slight — is that this black magic incense has yet to assist me in my summoning of Beelzebub, one of the seven princes of hell. Glory be. I will update this review if I am later successful. But, yeah, great for aromatherapy.

    I like the scent

    This is my 1st time trying the Hem Black Magic Incense Sticks. I trust Hem to supply a good, long lasting scent at a reasonable price, so I tried this one. I usually burn Dragon’s Blood or Forest, but was looking for something to change up from time to time. I saw this pop up and figured that I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. The scent is comparable, as far as being a similar type to the ones that I normally use, but is different in it’s own way. The burn time varies a bit, but it’s decent ( ranges from 30-45 minutes) and the scent is long lasting. I will definitely be buying more of this scent.

    Decent Incense

    The scent is more significant in the container – when you burn a stick the scent is on the light side, burning multiple sticks does provide a stronger scent. The sticks themselves have been a uniform size which is nice since they all fit into any holder.

    i like the smell but i have to warn you that …

    this black magic incense is very strong and powerful smelling at first if you are not use to it. i lit the first one and thought maybe i had bit off more than i could chew (as the saying goes). but i quickly grew use to the smell which smells quite heavy and musky and clingy, and i guess i am accustomed to it now. i like the smell but i have to warn you that there is nothing light and airy about this fragrance. it’s not for the faint of heart. if you like strong, earthy, musky, clingy smells with a hint or touch of sweet and savory, you will probably like this one. i would order it again, but only in addition to ordering something that is lighter in feel so i could burn them alternating .

THIS TAKES ME BACK TO THOSE GOOD OLD MAGICKAL SHOPS AND I LOVE IT????????SOME PEOPLE ON THESE REVIEWS ARE BEING VERY VERRRRRRY DRAMATIC BECAUSE ITS NOT A HORRIFYING SMELL ITS NOT SOMETHING WITH A THICK SMOKE ITS A NORMAL SMOKE AS ANY OF THE OTHER HEM STICKS.     Lights super easily. Smells. So. Good.

    Such a pleasant aroma. Worth every penny. I’m glad I like it because I’m going to be burning these for a year there are so many lol. No complaints though. It gives off ropes of thick smoke but doesn’t make my room hazy. The smell is light but really fills the space if that makes sense? It’s a strong smell (in a good way) but not pungent, not overwhelming I guess is a better way to say it. It burns evenly, doesn’t pop or flare. The stick / backbone is a bit on the weak side but that’s not a big deal once you’re aware of it. Lights super easily and stays lit.
