If you are interested in mythology this book is a must.As an occultist I am drawn to mythology because it is an esoteric look into the process of human consciousness and intellectual understanding.
Learning the beliefs of ancient civilizations helps us understand the people themselves and why their history developed as it did. In Mesopotamian Mythology we’re introduced to the mindset of the cradle of civilization’s early inhabitants. The read is quick and easy, the information abundant. The book’s introduction, not to be overlooked, is insightful. Also, each section contains its own introduction that provides historical background to each myth. The main content of the book is adapted from actual writings of the ancient peoples of Mesopotamia. It’s as if they’re telling their story directly to us thousands of years later.
One of the things that I like the most of this book is that, when the author doesn’t know the whole story, he says so. An insightful compilation of Mesopotamian myths, easy to follow and read, that gives us an understanding of the way in which civilizations evolved.
I had a hard time personally understanding the names, what god was what and even the really big differences btwn the Akkadian, Babylonian, Sumerian and the couple Assyrian tales. It was hard to understand the big differences b/c they were not always written. it was explained they are different and how just visually I would have liked to read it more.
This was a great compilation of Mesopotamian lore from the tablets that actually survived. The author is honest about not knowing the whole stories, and why that is. This book gets an A+ grade for not pretending or embellishing upon what’s missing!
A very unique book based on legends & myths . Another case of epic stories added to the wealth of information to crests a solid knowledge base! A good look at the numerous male & female individuals that make up all of these stories .Very good book on civilization as related to this region of the world.Great job by Captivating History!
